How to work out percentages - Step by Step
Here are the solutions to the questions stated above:
1) What is 2.1% of 500?
Always use this formula to find a percentage:
% / 100 = Part / Whole replace the given values:
2.1 / 100 = Part / 500
Cross multiply:
2.1 x 500 = 100 x Part, or
1050 = 100 x Part
Now, divide by 100 and get the answer:
Part = 1050 / 100 = 10.5
2) What is 2.1 out of 500?
This question is equivalent to: "2.1 is what percent of 500?" Or What percent 2.1 is out of 500?
Use again the same percentage formula:
% / 100 = Part / Whole replace the given values:
% / 100 = 2.1 / 500
Cross multiply:
% x 500 = 2.1 x 100
Divide by 500 to get the percentage:
% = (2.1 x 100) / 500 = 0.42%
