How do I convert kVA to amps?
Single-phase: Amps = kVA × 1,000 / Voltage. Three-phase: Amps = kVA × 1,000 / (Voltage × √3). Example: 10 kVA at 240V single-phase = 41.67 amps.
What is the difference between kVA and kW?
kVA (kilovolt-amperes) is apparent power — the total power drawn from the source. kW (kilowatts) is real power — the power that actually does work. The relationship: kW = kVA × power factor. For purely resistive loads (PF=1), they are equal.
What is power factor?
Power factor (PF) is the ratio of real power (kW) to apparent power (kVA), ranging from 0 to 1. Resistive loads (heaters, incandescent bulbs) = 1.0. Motors typically 0.8–0.9. Power factor correctors can improve PF closer to 1.0.
